Common questions from instructing solicitors. Click each question to expand.
Email a BriefReports are typically completed within 1–2 weeks of the date of examination. Complex matters with extensive records, or where supplementary material arrives after examination, may take longer. Urgent timeframes can sometimes be accommodated — please flag urgency when sending the brief.
Examinations are typically booked within 2–4 weeks of brief receipt. Earlier appointments can sometimes be offered. Booking is made directly with the client.
In-person examination is the default for new medicolegal assessments — this allows full neurological examination. Telehealth may be acceptable in specific circumstances by prior arrangement (e.g. addendum review, supplementary opinion on records, geographic remoteness with appropriate supports). Please raise telehealth at the time of brief submission.
Examinations are conducted at the Bondi Junction rooms (Suite 301, 251 Oxford Street, Bondi Junction NSW 2022). Easily accessible by public transport, with nearby parking. The premises are accessible.
A quote is provided on receipt of the brief, before any work is undertaken. Fees reflect time taken — examination, record review, and report preparation. Court attendance and conferences are charged separately at an hourly or half/full-day rate. Addenda are charged separately.
Payment terms are discussed at the time of brief acceptance. Standard terms apply for established solicitor accounts; for new instructing solicitors, payment in advance or at the time of examination may be required.
Addenda are routinely provided in response to new records, opposing-expert reports, or specific further questions. Email the request together with any new material. Addenda generally take 1 week from receipt of complete material. Fees are quoted before work commences.
A response report or addendum can be prepared addressing the opposing expert's opinion — section by section where helpful, focusing on areas of agreement, disagreement, and the reasoning. Please send the opposing report with a clear request for response, identifying which specific points you want addressed.
The overall structure is consistent (so opposing counsel and the court can navigate easily) but the emphasis follows the brief. SIRA WPI reports highlight impairment calculations; PIC reports follow PIC referral terms; common law reports lean into causation, prognosis, and work capacity. See Sample Report Structure.
Dr Granot attends joint expert conferences where required by the court. Half-day and full-day rates apply. Pre-conference preparation time is included. Joint statements / experts' agreements are prepared as required.
Yes. Court attendance, mediation, and PIC conferences are all routinely attended. Fees include reasonable preparation time, travel time, and attendance time at the relevant rate. Adequate notice is appreciated.
PIC matters follow specific procedural rules including referral form requirements, restricted question scopes, and prescribed timeframes. Dr Granot is familiar with PIC procedures and Medical Assessor obligations. The referral document must come with the brief.
All three. Briefs are accepted from solicitors acting for any party. The same standard of independent assessment applies regardless of who instructs. Dr Granot's obligations as an expert witness are to the court (or relevant tribunal), not to the instructing party.
If a brief involves a condition outside the scope of clinical neurology (e.g. pure orthopaedic injury, primary psychiatric diagnosis), Dr Granot will say so and decline rather than provide opinion beyond his specialty. Recommendations for appropriately credentialled experts can be provided where possible.
